Nestled in a tranquil, beautifully wooded area of Dallas, Lake Highlands is a lovely neighborhood. It is well-known for its charming collection of homes as well as a family-oriented community character. It is straightforwardly named for both its proximity to scenic White Rock Lake as well as the elevated topography. Residents and visitors from all over flock to Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden on the lake, which cultivates the most beautiful gardens in the region and stages special exhibits and events throughout the year.
Special Christmas exhibitions, a lovely spring and fall concert series, known as Cool Thursdays, and the annual Dallas Blooms, which Fodor’s Travel has named one of America's best spring floral festivals, all attract loyal audiences. Lake Highlands is convenient to an abundance of shopping and dining options, and not far from Dallas Love Field Airport. Located east of main thoroughfare North Central Expressway and north of retail-rich Northwest Highway, Lake Highlands neighborhoods experienced a bit of a boom in the 1960s and 1970s when the sprawling northeast Dallas region expanded significantly.
Lake Highlands proximity to recreational retreats, as well as its locale within the decorated Richardson Independent School District, makes the area ideal for established families and young couples just starting. Lake Highlands Elementary and Lake Highlands High School are public schools that provide area children with a solid foundation for higher education. As far as private schools, there is Lakewood Prep (K-12), and Bishop Lynch High School in the area, considered among the top Catholic educations in Dallas. Also available nearby are Ursuline Academy of Dallas, The Hockaday School, St. Mark’s School of Texas and more.
Additionally, nationally ranked Southern Methodist University is only 15 minutes away and offers a range of academic programs for students, as well as major college sports. Plus, Dallas College (Richland Campus) is in the area too. Celebrities from the region include actress Morgan Fairchild, musician Annie Clark (known professionally as St. Vincent) and Chris Harrison, host of TV’s “The Bachelor.” The Lake Highlands area is attractive to business professionals, as well, due to its convenience to numerous major employers. Interstate 635 (also known as the LBJ Freeway) is just minutes away and provides quick access to northeast and northwest Dallas.
The North Central Expressway (U.S. 75) makes for easy and efficient travel to Plano in the north and Dallas to the south. The Walnut Hill DART station is a convenient public transportation hub for the Red and Blue lines and gets residents out and about without the hassle of traffic.
